Weaning and Bale Grazing

I recently expiremented with a product called Quiet Wean. Its a nose tag that prevents the calves from sucking for a week or so prior to taking them away from their mothers. It is supposed to reduce stress and the bawling of the calves which prevents or reduces illness associated with weening such as respiratory issues. It worked wonderfully and I had no bawling at all. The calves are doing great with no illness and are growing as expected. Very low stress.

I am also using a grid system bale grazing set up to restore an old overgrown and neglected pasture that I recently purchased and wintering my cows there. This too is working wonderfully. I will be moving the momma cows onto a new section this weekend and I am very pleased with what I see in the way of ground disturbance, manure distribution and limited hay wasted.
